Day 12: Developing Your Friendship with God
I am reflecting on this chapter after having read it in its entirety. Personally, I feel that Rick is misusing the word "friendship" here. My idea of a friend is someone with whom I have a close relationship that is a two-way exchange of support, insights and other thoughts. But the "friendship" with God, as Rick describes it, is not the same. Rick says, "While these close companions had special privileges, they were still subject to the king and had to obey his commands." Companion? Maybe. Friend? No.
Regardless, the actions that Rick is promoting, such as loving others, helping the needy, sharing our resources, living cleanly and offering forgiveness are all respectable actions that we would all do well to practice. The mantra of living to capture the small opportunities to do good instead of waiting for one great opportunity is also a key concept. It ties back to the earlier metaphor that life is a test at every moment.
The one thing that I don't quite understand is the example with Moses. Did Moses talk back to God? And did God change the plan based on Moses's feedback? I can't quite tell from this passage, but maybe I can look for the story in the Bible.is app.
This seems to make sense, if we start from the point that God wants to be as intimately close to each of us as possible. If God is committed to being close to us, then all we have to do is reciprocate.
I have decided yesterday to talk to God on a regular basis. Other than that, I will try to practice not being lazy and making the right choices in each situation, big or small, that I encounter.

Point to Ponder: I'm as close to God as I choose to be.

Question to Consider: What practical choices will I make today in order to grow closer to God?
